New Prostate Cancer Screening Guidelines – Case-Based Explanation for GP
A/Prof Ralph Audehm & Prof Jeremy Grummet

Newly released prostate cancer screening guidelines, the first new guidelines in a decade contain some significant changes in terms of who, when, how and how often men should be screened and assessed for this common cancer. How these changes will affect GP's day to day clinical practice is the subject of this very pragmatic and practical discussion between GP, Associate Professor Ralph Audehm and urologist, Professor Jeremy Grummet. In particular, they will focus on PSA testing, when it is appropriate, how the results should be interpreted depending on the patient, and the new recommendations in terms of further management when the PSA is found to be high.

Acute Migraine Management
Dr Katherine Spira

Managing acute migraines is still fundamentally important for clinicians treating migraine patients, even in patients taking preventive therapy. In this talk, neurologist Dr Katherine Spira shares her recipe for effective treatment of the acute migraine and how this recipe can be finessed to ensure maximum effectiveness, minimum side effects and a resumption of normal functioning within 90 minutes of the migraine onset - the ultimate goal.

Continuous Glucose Monitoring Update – Why it will Soon Become Standard Care
A/Prof Gary Kilov AM

Continuous Glucose Monitoring is now being recommended as the standard for management of any patient on intensive insulin therapy, not just those with type 1 diabetes. In this talk, Associate Professor Gary Kilov AM will present the evidence that supports current guidelines for CGM to be used in patients with type 2 diabetes who are on insulin. He will also address the logistics of commencing CGM in this cohort - including the when, how, for how long and choice of device. An important update in a rapidly evolving area of medicine.

Faecal Calprotectin – A Practical Guide to the Test and the New Item Number
Dr Aviv Pudipeddi & Dr David Lim

Faecal calprotectin testing is now readily accessible in primary care, making earlier diagnosis of inflammatory bowel disease more possible and more likely. In this session, GP, Dr David Lim interviews gastroenterologist, Dr Aviv Pudipeddi on the role of faecal calprotectin in clinical practice, including which patients are eligible for testing, when testing is appropriate and how the test results should be interpreted. Dr Pudipeddi will also discuss the role of faecal calprotectin in monitoring patients with confirmed inflammatory bowel disease, and how its use can be beneficial in preventing significant flares and avoiding complications of this chronic disease.
