Webcasts / Healthed Webcast – 23rd June 2026
Healthed webcasts are a valuable educational platform, allowing viewers to gain up-to-date clinical knowledge through an easy, time-efficient format. Our free online seminars fill a huge unmet need amongst GPs outside of the major cities for quality, accessible education. Each webcast features four lectures and runs for two hours. While the majority of viewers are GPs, our webcasts are relevant for healthcare professionals including pharmacists and nurses.

The immunisation program against RSV, targeting pregnant women and young infants has now been going in Australia for over 12 months. In this talk, Associate Professor Daryl Cheng will provide an update on this program, discussing the burden of disease caused by RSV and how this is being affected by the new immunisation initiative. He will also present the latest effectiveness and safety data of the vaccine, and address program-related issues, including the eligibility variation between states for the funded RSV monoclonal antibody for infants.

The use of GLP1 receptor agonists has revolutionised weight loss management in primary care. But their use, particularly in certain populations, can present challenges. In this session, GP Dr Angela Kwong will discuss the case of a 25 year old obese woman who can't lose weight with obesity experts Associate Professor Samantha Hocking and Dr Georgia Rigas. They will cover a range of issues associated with this cohort and weight management including contraception, PMOS and ongoing implications for and in pregnancy.

Spirometry is central to diagnosing and monitoring lung disease but unfortunately, the quality of testing in primary care can often be inconsistent and therefore unreliable. New Australian standards for spirometry have been developed that provide a safety and quality framework for service providers so they can ensure their results are accurate, accessible and clinically useful. In this talk, respiratory scientist Jarrod Warner and clinical educator Irene Schneider will outline the key changes in these new standards for spirometry and how they can be incorporated into clinical practice to ultimately improve health outcomes for patients with respiratory disease.

The prevalence of food allergy among children in Australia has increased dramatically over the last decade. But why? And can anything be done to prevent these food allergies developing? These are the questions that Associate Professor Alberto Pinzon will endeavour to answer in this talk. He will discuss the hypotheses that researchers believe to be the most likely reason for the surge in food allergies as well as referring to the latest evidence-based guidelines for preventing young children from developing these potentially fatal reactions.
